Gilbert N. is a single father of two Mia(13) and Benson(2). Gilbert was a successful web designer for the past several years, he was self employed and was living a great life but all of this was short lived. “Me and my wife divorced. The divorce wiped out my savings, that\'s when my money trouble really started. I had to cut all the expenses, which included my outrageously expensive self-pay health insurance. I had been healthy all my life, and decided to drop it for a year until I could get out of the expensive house I was renting for my family, get my income steady again and get some money in the bank. As luck would have it I got gravely ill, I was admitted to the hospital for a very rare and deadly type of pneumonia, the kind that kills lung tissue. Due to my medical condition I was unable to work for a few months and my income dropped like a rock. That was until last month when I lost my most reliable and steady contract due to the company not being able to afford me any longer. Everything has dried up and for the first time in my life, I filed for government assistance. However, I can\'t get unemployment because I was a 1099 contractor for the past 10 years. So dire straits is my life right now. Right now I am staring at a pile of medical bills and personal debt, and have no idea how I am going to make rent, child support, and other living expenses. I am asking for help, and asking alone is a hard pill to swallow. Thank you for anything you might be able to spare”.
