Duane S. is a 37 year old single father of Dakayla, age 4, and was employed at a bank until he was laid off in 2010 due to cutbacks. He received unemployment off and on but no longer receives any benefits. “I have been attending the community college out here to finish my education and try to get into a better career and have not been able to find sufficient work. I worked part time on the campus for a few months but the position was temporary. I am now behind on daycare for my daughter, I barely have enough money for this month’s rent and no money for the next month, and all of my utility bills are past due. The rent is $600 a month and daycare is $100 weekly. I just used my school loan refund to catch up four weeks of daycare I was behind on and to pay last month’s rent, and I have no money left, not even for food for me and my daughter. I am in a very desperate situation. Having a 4 year old daughter and no income is scary and frightening. I could really use some help so I can get back on my feet. I am looking for a job every day of the week but with no luck. Thank you GiveLocally for this opportunity and I hope you and the donors can help me in these hard times me and my daughter are going through.”
