Zelda D. is a single mother of Chikezie (19). She has been in the real estate industry for 20 years and when the economy imploded so did her job. Now she is completely broke, trying to keep her 19 year old son in community college full time. "I have bills up to my neck, and no medical or dental insurance for myself. My gums are bleeding and I have a cracked bridge. I need to get dental work of approximately $500.00. I have not had a medical exam, routine blood work, including mammogram or other exams in a long time. My car insurance is now too expensive to maintain at $100.00 per month. Groceries for me are very hard to obtain as well as household items. My real estate license is in 'pending' status because I can't afford the renewal fee. This is the first time in my 20 years of work of not being able to afford or renew my license. I use the library for internet services because I can't afford to have this service at home. I am very stressed out and can't really take it any more. Yes, I am listed with Work Force Solutions of Texas for job search. My point is that I'm not lazy, and I’ve been working hard my entire life. I have never been on any government assistance programs, food stamps, but I need some help now! I give back to the community by volunteering at the Richmond Juvenile Center. While I am a desperate single mother at this point, I hope to be back on my feet soon. Thanks for all the help Givelocally and any Givers with whom my current situation resonates."
