Lucy L. worked as a paralegal in a non-profit that lost some of its funding a year ago and she was let go. She lost her health insurance and it has been very difficult to pay bills. At the age of 59 it became hard to find another job. She fell behind with her rent due to medical expenses no longer covered by health insurance. Her rent is $1,120.74 and she has lived in her apartment for over 20 years. She owes 5 months rent and has applied to several charities for help but many have depleted their funds due to the huge demand caused by the recession. She is currently in Housing Court and has received a Marshal’s Notice of Eviction. "Help from you will assist me to delay an eviction until I can raise the money I owe. My family has all passed away and I would have no where to go but a shelter. My unemployment benefits will cover my rent going forward. I worked as a paralegal for all my life but the jobs have dried up, I find it hard not being able to take care of myself because I don’t have a job. I live alone in a studio apartment in New York. If evicted, it would be painful not having the friends I have had for many years around me." Update: Lucy has been evicted and is now getting help from friends. she is in dire need of rent assistance.

They need: $3500 in rent assistance; $500 in bill assistance
