Denise and her husband moved to Tucson, Arizona two years ago for her health. Twelve years ago she sustained a back injury while working as a nurse. In the less humid climate she has been able to rehab back to her previous health. Her husband was working at a call center and able to support them while she looked into updating and transferring her New York nursing license to Arizona. In February, he came home from work with a bad case of flu that became double pneumonia. He was admitted to the ICU, put into a medicated coma and placed on a ventilator. His prognosis was 30% survival for several days. At two weeks, he had a tracheotomy placed. Denise applied to the State to be his paid caregiver at home for which she is paid for two hours of care a day. It will take $1080.00 plus books for a Licensed Nurse refresher course and another $150.00 for license transfer fee. "I talked to the Arizona State Board of Nursing and with $50.00 and my LPN transcript I can take the CNA exam. The nursing facility where my husband spent time said they would hire me as a CNA if I have my CNA license. For our personal expenses we've been living off loans and donations from friends and family. The manager of our complex told me not worry about the rent in the beginning of Duane's illness. However, we are now behind in the rent. I've gotten what help I could from the few charities here for utilities. The only state aid we qualify for is food stamps and Medicaid.”

They need: $2000 Rent Assistance; $1000 towards License Fees and Course; $1500 basic necessities
